ALERT: VOOM VOOM RECORDS BLOG?!
Welcome to the Voom Voom Records blog—where the style is as smooth as the wax is and we’re still keeping the oobi-doo-ba skatters alive and grooving. This ain’t just a shop; it’s an experience–a sonic-soup sanctum where deep cuts and histories are the main ingredients. We’re here for the those who seek sick sounds, the deep diggers: The Jazz Junkies, House Heads, Dub Delinquents, Funky Fellas, and Soulful Sistas alike. We never dabble in the generic either, originality or nothing! From Spiritual Jazz to Electric Funk, from avant-garde experiments to raw, soul-drenched Blues, we celebrate the records that refuse to be forgotten.
This blog will serve as our way of exploring and showcasing not just music but the stories and rich histories behind it all as well. We’re all about giving praise to the artists, bands, and genres that have revolutionised both the musical and cultural landscapes and have been the core instigators in inspiring the movements we resonate with so much. We naturally also honour the Black and Brown communities who’ve been so seminal in birthing our favourite genres and sub-genres, from the funky ecstasy of The Paradise Garage to the fabulous excess of Studio 54, the juke joints to the bandstands, the block parties to the underground clubs.
This endeavour seeks to illuminate those musics that have fallen into shadowy obscurity: The albums that never made it to streaming (or even pressing), the bootlegs passed hand to hand, the deep cuts that fuel late-night conversations. We expose the mystique of certain lost masterpieces, historic mixtapes crafted with real intent, and reflections on how music has and continues to shape the world around us.
This is a love letter to the art of listening, a space which holds reverence for the simple act of putting a record on and the many ways that doing so can transport us; whether for catharsis, escapism, or journeys to way, WAY out realms. At Voom Voom, we don’t just collect music—we keep its spirit alive, honoring its past while showing everyone how it’s still relevant, relatable, and healing.
So whether you’re a seasoned digger or just dropping the needle for the first time, you’re in the right place. Pull up a chair, press play, and sink into our menagerie of timeless tunes that even make the birds jealous.
In Music We Trust,
Voom Voom Records.
